MISSION

To inspire, support, educate and empower youth to compassionately give back by collecting food and funds for our network of members agencies serving families in their local communities.

The Gift was founded on four principles that guide all we do:

  1. Practice Compassion & Respect – Encouraging youth to empathize with those in need.
  2.  Learn Through Education & Awareness – Connecting kids to agencies that serve our most vulnerable.
  3. Lead with Youth Empowerment – Inspiring young people to lift others up through their actions.
  4. Give Through Volunteerism & Community Engagement – Motivating youth and families to make giving back part of everyday life.

The charitable organization serves the following population:

Currently the Region of Halton with aspirations to grow provincially.

How does this charity serve Burlington/Halton directly:

  • Thousands of young athletes and students engaged each year through sports teams and schools.
  • We have raised millions of dollars’ worth of food and financial donations for our beneficiaries since our founding in 2005.
  • 12 local beneficiary agencies supported annually, including food banks, community organizations, women’s shelters, and children’s foundations across Halton.

The Gift of Giving Back engages young athletes and students to collect donations twice per year, with our signature fall Food Drive campaign running September to December annually. The youth players and high school students collect both food and cash donations, culminating in a massive community event that fills high-school gymnasiums, in Burlington and Oakville, with food.

Last year alone, we collected and shared over $1.2 million worth of food and financial donations with our beneficiaries. The real impact, however, is in the hearts and minds of our youth. By connecting them with frontline agencies and encouraging them to lead, we show them that “kids feeding kids” is more than a slogan, it’s a way of life.

The donated funds would be used for

 • A donation would allow us to purchase a year’s supply of the reuseable blue collection bags that are the    backbone of our campaigns and provide funding for youth leadership initiatives in our local high schools.

 • This investment feeds families and fuels youth leadership, creating lasting impact far beyond one campaign.

The Organization’s current sources of funding are:

We currently rely solely on the generosity of our community and our own fundraising. We have no steady funding streams, just a passionate network of volunteers.
